The Presidents’ Round Table (PRT) is excited to welcome attendees to the 9th Annual Men of Color Student Leadership Institute (MOCSLI), which is being hosted virtually for the first time and scheduled for October 20-23. The MOCSLI is designed to develop and promote an effort focused on increasing the attendance, persistence, and completion of post-secondary programs for minority males. This institute is intended to develop, and promote an effort focused on increasing the attendance, persistence and completion of post-secondary programs for minority males. This intensive 2.5 day leadership seminar is for select men enrolled in one of the many minority male programs across the country.

This workshop deals with the traumatic impacts of witnessing the documented killings of Black men and the deleterious dehumanizing impact. Mental health is a crucial component on the holistic stability to preserve black men. This workshop will deal with signs and symptoms of mental illnesses, debunk stigmas around seeking treatment to cope and heal, and provide resources for black men not only to survive but thrive.

FINANCIAL LITERACY. MAKING YOUR DOLLA$ MAKE $ENSE: 10 KEYS TO FINANCIAL SUCCESS IN COLLEGE

This workshop will explore financial concepts that everyone should know, yet the reality is that many black men do not until later in life. This session is designed to assist young black men to leverage the gifts of information and time by introducing them to foundational financial principals such as compounding, investing early for the future, taking calculated financial risks, and maintaining a healthy credit profile. The vision for every participant is that he will understand the importance of limiting debt and increasing savings to support a bright financial future. Time is on your side young brothers!

The session will speak to students about not being afraid to ask for help. Too many times, especially as men, we don’t reach out for help because we view it as weakness. However, the smartest and most successful individuals utilize their resources. Lay the pride DOWN and level UP!

The Initiative Mandate:
- Closing the achievement gap – Promote policies and programs that facilitate access and post-secondary success
- Create Sustainable, collaborative partnerships including the procurement of external resources
- Push for legislative focus a, reforms and funding
- Serve as a clearing house of information
The student track will focus on the following:
- Self-image
- College completion and career readiness
- Personal health and wellness
- Entrepreneurship
- Financial literacy
Initiative Goals
- Create a national repository for data collection and analysis
- To engage minority males in multiple experiences that are designed to connect them to college in order to facilitate their academic, social, and emotional success.
- To ensure minority males prosper economically and professionally.
- To build a cadre of future leaders who are competent, caring and culturally aware of their commitment to the liberation of their communities.
- Create an annual Minority Male Conference
The Men of Color Student Leadership Institute serves as a venue for practitioners and students to come together to discuss challenges and opportunities within the National Minority Male Initiative. Broad parameters to be addressed at the Institute are:
- Leadership and character development for students enrolled in the National Minority Male Initiative consortia initiatives
- Engagement of participants in dialogue about best practices
- Identification of new and emerging challenges
- Improvement of faculty and student service development to ensure that consortia are able to meet the goals of the project
